What you don’t expect to find in the tranquil setting of Souq Qarayat Al Beri is a doorway leading to the Meat Packing district of New York.
Eight Abu Dhabi’s transformation is Narniesque in nature – step through a door, leave behind ancient Arabia and enter an urban world of exposed brick.
In a new concept, the refurbishments in Eight lend a street feeling to the venue, with an open ceiling, wiring on show and warehouse facades.
But don’t worry folks, it’s only a feeling – all the required UAE luxuries are to be found, including comfy sofas, amazing lighting and plenty of staff.
“We wanted something that was artsy and grungy,” said managing partner Elie. “Everywhere you go in the Emirates seems clean-cut and new but we wanted something different – the feeling of being in an Ally way but with art on the walls.”
The person who bought the concept to fruition was Beirut-based interior designer Suzy Nasr. Her stencil paintings on the walls are striking.
We can’t wait to see what the terrace looks like.
