'Star Wars' fans get a first look at 'The Mandalorian' series

The eight-episode series will be shown on Disney+ streaming service from November 12

Star Wars fans have been given a first glimpse of The Mandalorian, a highly anticipated series from the galaxy far, far away.

Actor Jon Favreau is the showrunner behind the eight-episode project. And it is set to debut on Disney's streaming site, Disney+, on November 12.

The show is set in the aftermath of The Return of the Jedi, taking place five years after the Rebellion's victory. It stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Omid Abtahi, Nick Nolte, Carl Weathers, Werner Herzog, and the directors attached to the project include Deborah Chow, Rick Famuyiwa, Dave Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Taika Waititi.

Favreau premiered behind-the-scenes clips and some finished footage to attendees on April 14 at the Star Wars Celebration in Chicago. It was the first time details have been revealed about the show.

The series stars Pascal stars as the title character, a lone gunfighter the actor compared to a Western or samurai hero. Carano co-stars as a character named Cara Dune and Weathers as a bounty hunter named Greef.

Footage has not been made public, it has been reserved for the attendees of Star Wars Celebration.
