Oscar Isaac joins Marvel superhero universe as crime-fighter Moon Knight

The ‘Star Wars’ actor is confirmed to play the millionaire Marc Spector and his many heroic alter-egos

Like Oscar Isaac himself, the fictional Marvel superhero Moon Knight has many facets and just as many identities. And, thanks to his turns playing both heroes and villains on the big screen, Guatemalan-American actor Isaac, 41, has proven to be the man to bring the crime-fighter to life in a new Disney+ series.

Having starred in X-Men, Into the Spider-Verse, Dune and Star Wars, the actor beat both established and unknown actors to land the role of Marc Spector, AKA Moon Knight, a character who has been described as Batman-like, due to the fact that both are millionaires with separate public and private personas.

And while Moon Knight will first be introduced on the small screen, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige said last year that the character will play a larger role in the expanding Marvel universe, since the storylines of the main Avengers characters came to an end in last year's monster-hit, Avengers: Endgame.

Who is Moon Knight?

Moon Knight has taken on many different personas and aliases over the years after he was first introduced in the comic Werewolf by Night #32 back in August 1975, created by writer Doug Moench and artist Don Perlin.

In the comics, Marc Spector is a former boxer, CIA agent and mercenary. When he and his employer, Raoul Bushman, come across an archaeological dig that Bushman wants to loot, Spector tries to stop him, but is attacked and left for dead by his employer.

Minutes from death, he is approached by the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, who offers him a second chance at life in exchange for becoming his avatar on Earth.

Resurrected and with new superhuman abilities, he returns to the US and invests the money he made as a mercenary to make his fortune and became the crime-fighting Moon Knight. His additional identities include that of millionaire Steven Grant and taxi driver Jake Lockley.
