Netflix's Arabic debut: Petra-set 'Jinn' will launch on June 13

The spooky drama follows a high school trip to Petra, and is also partly set in Amman

Netflix's eagerly anticipated debut Arabic original series Jinn has finally been given a release date. The paranormal drama will land globally on the streaming service just after Eid on June 13.

The story follows a group of students who unknowingly unleash a vengeful Jinn in the form of a seemingly normal teenage boy during a school trip to the ancient ruins of Petra. It’s up to the high schoolers to save the day before the malevolent spirit can wreak havoc on their lives.

Set in modern Amman and ancient Petra, the show is filmed entirely on location in Jordan with a cast of regional actors. It promises to follow the friendships, budding romances and day-to-day travails of our heroes school and home lives, as well as their battle with their evil supernatural foe.

As the jinn gets stronger and the lines between good and evil blur, the high school students’ bonds are tested to the limits and they lose track of who they can trust.

Can they find the answers they need in order to save their world?

Jinn stars a host of emerging young Arab talent, including Salma Malhas, Hamzeh Okab, Sultan Alkhail and Aysha Shahaltough.
It is produced by Beirut-based Kabreet Productions, which includes Very Big Shot director Mir-Jean Bou Chaaya among its founders, and is directed by Bou Chaaya and Amin Matalqa (The Rendezvous).
