Excess baggage: Ramy Youssef shares ordeal getting Golden Globe through airport security

Youssef was a surprise winner when he took out the Best Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy award on Sunday at the awards

Even Golden Globe awards aren't exempt from the full security pat-down treatment at the airport.

At least, Globe winner Ramy Youssef's one wasn't, as he documented over a series of posts on his Instagram page.

The Egyptian-American actor was announced as the winner of the award for Best Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for his performances in his semi-autobiographical comedy show Ramy at Sunday's Golden Globes ceremony in Los Angeles.

After a whirlwind few days of after parties and celebrations, it seems the actor was then heading for home. However, he wasn't about to let the celebrations stop there; choosing to document his new trophy cabinet's addition journey through the airport.

First, he filmed the black box, not so conspicuously labelled with a gleaming "Golden Globe Awards" stamp, being put in a tray and heading for the X-ray machine. The next picture showed a close-up of a TSA agent inspecting the accolade on her screen. The final pictures showed the giddy agent smiling and posing with the award, before giving it a wipe down.

"Is that part of the test or what?” Youssef can be heard asking in the background.

But it's unclear if the experience was as much of a light-hearted affair as it first appeared on social media. Youssef's final post wondered whether he had been subjected to the extra attention at security for an altogether other reason.

“The ‘random’ checks you have to deal with when you have a Muslim name,” he wrote.

Youssef is vocal about his Muslim background and faith, and it forms the crux of his groundbreaking Hulu sitcom.

He was widely lauded for his Globes acceptance speech, in which he began it by saying, “I would like to thank my God, Allahu Akbar."
