The UAE-produced Arabic TV show Justice: Qalb Al Adala is now showing on Netflix globally, as the streaming giant has acquired the worldwide streaming rights.
The Arabic drama, shot in Abu Dhabi, follows an ambitious and passionate young lawyer, Farah, who has returned home after graduating with a law degree from the US. Farah's father is one of the UAE's top lawyers, and has big ambitions for his daughter's careers at his own firm. Farah, however, has other plans, which include pushing the "legal and cultural envelope" in her home country in the process.
It's being screened with subtitles in 20 different languages.
An 18-episode series produced by Image Nation Abu Dhabi and Beelink Productions, it's the first Emirati TV show to run on the streaming platform. Previously, UAE-produced films Zinzana and The Worthy were also picked up by Netflix.
The show was created by Oscar nominee Walter Parkes (He Named Me Malala) and Emmy award-winning producer William Finkelstein (LA Law), and believed to be the most expensive Emirati TV series ever produced.
It originally premiered back in September 2017 on OSN Ya Hala Al Oula HD.
Ben Ross, chief content officer at Image Nation, said in a statement: “This is a landmark series not just for Image Nation, but for Abu Dhabi and the whole UAE.
“Part of our mission is to continue to change perceptions about our region and we’re excited to showcase the region’s culture positively and authentically to audiences around the world.”
The series was produced in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, which advised on the plot and provided access to real local cases, ensuring authenticity.
Dr Salah Khamis Al Junaibi, director of corporate communication and international cooperation at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, said: "The participation of the judicial department in the production of Justice was to help educate audiences about our legal system – both in the UAE and abroad."
