Bob Einstein, the veteran comedy writer and performer known for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, Curb Your Enthusiasm and his spoof daredevil character Super Dave Osborne, has died, according to his brother, filmmaker Albert Brooks. Einstein was 76.
The two-time Emmy winner will be "missed forever," Brooks, 71, said in a post Wednesday on his verified Twitter account.
"R.I.P. My dear brother Bob Einstein. A great brother, father and husband. A brilliantly funny man."
Details of Einstein's death were not immediately available, although Deadline reported the star had recently been diagnosed with cancer. Representatives for him and Brooks did not immediately respond to calls or emails.
Einstein was scheduled to be part of the 10th season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, but his health barred him from filming, HBO said.
Bob Weide, director and executive producer of the show, paid tribute on Twitter. "Any day this guy was on the Curb set was a good day," he wrote.
American TV host Jimmy Kimmel also posted his condolences on social media. Einstein has appeared on the star's talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!. He wrote: "His name was Bob Einstein, but we all called him Supe. Super Dave was a great friend and the master of a joke you could see coming for miles that still killed when it arrived. I will miss him."
