Barack Obama, alongside his wife Michelle, is set to produce a comedy sketch show that will focus on the transition between his presidency and the Trump administration.

The show will be made as part of the multimillion-dollar deal between the couple's company Higher Ground Productions and streaming platform Netflix. Entitled The G Word, the show is set to begin filming in the new year.

The G Word is set to be part-documentary, part-comedy sketch and will be loosely based on Michael Lewis's book The Fifth Risk, which the Obamas bought the rights to in 2018.

Lewis's previous books Moneyball and The Big Short have also been adapted for screen with critical acclaim.

Comedian Adam Conover will be at the helm of the show. Sharing the news on Twitter, he said: "Very happy to finally be able to share this news: I'm creating a new comedy series for Netflix about the federal government. It's called The G Word, and I can't wait to share it with you."

The G Word is the latest show the Obamas have made with Netflix. In 2019, their first project, American Factory, was released, telling the story of a Chinese billionaire opening a factory in post-industrial Ohio.

Earlier this year, Michelle Obama's autobiography, Becoming, was also turned into a documentary for the streaming platform.
