It all started when a poster appeared in the window of a charity shop in Streatham, south London, on Thursday afternoon. The poster read: "Stormzy Friday! First Glastonbury Headliner Revealed!" And so began an afternoon of rumours, claims and counter claims.
So far, this poster has been spotted in Glastonbury and Streatham Oxfam shops. Anyone found any others? pic.twitter.com/xW7Fv4AUaW

But now it has been confirmed by the man himself. On Thursday evening, the UK grime star, who in 2017 went to number one with his debut album, Gang Signs & Prayer, posted the image of the poster on Instagram alongside the caption: "THE HEADLINE ACT – GLASTONBURY 2019, well lets be [expletive] having ya then."
Glastonbury Festival also released a statement: "We're delighted to announce that Stormzy is confirmed as the first headliner for Glastonbury 2019. The multi award-winning British MC will headline the Pyramid Stage on Friday, 28 June."
This set represents a giant leap forward for the 25-year-old who only broke through in 2015 with the song Shut Up. It now seems inevitable that Stormzy will release his second album before the festival.
There has been some criticism of the news on social media (as there seems to be every time a headliner not offering conventional rock music is announced).
I miss the days when there were bands as epic as Radiohead or singers like P.J.Harvey headlining Glastonbury. Stormzy!? It this the best we can do? sorry but his music is mediocre at best. #Stormzy

The Glastonbury headliner #Stormzy and the other rumoured headliners do absolutely nothing for me and I think I’m secretly glad I didn’t get tickets after all 🤭

I really don’t think #stormzy is big enough to headline #glastonbury or right for the clientele...

Stormzy performed on the Other Stage at Glastonbury Festival in 2017.
This will be the first Glastonbury Festival in two years, following a fallow year in 2018. It takes place on Worthy Farm, Somerset, between June 26-30.
