The 77th annual Golden Globes took place in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 5. Naturally, the focus was on the winners at the glittering TV and film awards ceremony. But, if you didn't watch the three-hour broadcast in full, you may have missed a few key moments, from reactions to host Ricky Gervais's digs to Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep's cute friendship. We have rounded the best moments up for you here ...
Tom Hanks’s facial expressions
Gervais was back behind the hosting podium for a fifth time this year, and while many of his opening monologue jokes got roars of laughter, one person did not seem to be amused: Tom Hanks.
NBC cut away to Hanks, and his very frank, facial expressions no fewer than three times during the opening. He managed to look shocked, bemused and confused all at once.
After calling Apple out for being faux-woke, Gervais said: "So if you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a platform to make a political speech, alright? You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg. If you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent and your god, and [walk away].”

Gervais not holding back in his monologue
Although Hanks may not have been amused, several of comedian Gervais's one-liners certainly did land with the A-list crowd.
"Let’s go out with a bang, let’s have a laugh at your expense, shall we?" he warned the celebrity crowd, ahead of the roasting. Adding: "Remember, they’re just jokes, and we’re all gonna die soon."
Gervais then levelled into Leonardo DiCaprio, 45, who has a reputation for dating models under 25 years old.
"Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, nearly three hours long. Leonardo DiCaprio attended the premiere, and by the end, his date was too old for him," he said. "Even Prince Andrew's like, 'Come on, Leo, mate. You're nearly 50, son.'"
That wasn't the only close-to-the-bone statement he made, referencing Jeffrey Epstein in another joke.
"You could binge-watch the entire first season of After Life instead of watching this show. That's a show about a man who wants to kill himself because his wife dies of cancer, and it's still more fun than this," he said. "Spoiler alert: Season 2 is on the way, so in the end, he obviously didn't kill himself. Just like Jeffrey Epstein."
But his jokes weren't all controversial, some were just a bit cruel.
"Martin Scorsese, the greatest living director, made the news for his comments about Marvel movies. He said they’re not real cinema and they remind him of theme parks," he joked. "I agree, although I don’t know what he’s doing hanging around theme parks. He’s not big enough to go on the rides."
Russell Crowe's statement on climate change
Australian actor Crowe won the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture made for Television, for his role in The Loudest Voice. He could not attend the ceremony because he was " home in Australia protecting his family from the devastating bushfires".
Instead, he sent a statement to be read in the event he did win, which Jennifer Aniston delivered.
"Make no mistake, the tragedy unfolding in Australia is climate change-based," she said on Crowe's behalf. “We need to act based on science, move our global work force to renewable energy and respect our planet for the unique and amazing place it is. That way, we have a future. Thank you.”

Michelle Williams's galvanising speech
Fosse/Verdon actress Michelle Williams won Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture made for Television.
In her speech, she spoke directly to her female audience, saying: "Women: please vote in your own self-interest. Men have been doing it for years."
Brad Pitt's pet name for Leo and 'Titanic' reference
It is no secret that Pitt and DiCaprio became firm friends while filming Once Upon a Time ... In Hollywood. In his Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture acceptance speech, Pitt gave DiCaprio a shout out and a nickname, saying, "I also have to thank my partner-in-crime, LDC," which was greeted with laughs from the celebrity audience.
He went on to add: "Before The Revenant, I used to watch his co-stars accept awards and get up and thank him profusely ... I [now] know why. He is an all-star, he is a gent and I wouldn't be here without you, man, I thank you."
The LDC fodder didn't stop there – Pitt then quipped, "Still, I would've shared the raft," in reference to his Titanic death scene.
Pitt calls out the gossip mill
When he had finished gushing about DiCaprio, Pitt made a reference to tabloid reports surrounding his love live in his acceptance speech.

"I wanted to bring my mum [tonight], but I couldn't," Pitt said, "any woman I stand next to, they say I am dating and that would just be awkward."
He then closed his speech saying: "Hey, if you see a chance to be kind to someone tomorrow, take it. I think we need it."
Pierce Brosnan's new look
Former James Bond star Brosnan turned up to the awards with his wife, Keely Shaye Smith, two sons, Dylan and Paris Brosnan, and a distinctive new look, which is best described as KFChic.
Twitter was quickly chatting about his Colonel Sanders-esque facial hair, with one user asking: "Am I the only one who thinks Pierce Brosnan just looks like Colonel Sanders?"

Director and producer Kay Cannon cryptically re-tweeted one of the quips, saying, "I feel somewhat responsible for this. Stay tuned!"

Cannon is directing Brosnan in Cinderella, due for release in 2021. So we can only assume the statement facial hair is for the so-far-undisclosed role. Camila Cabello is set to play the titular character, and Idina Menzel is rumoured to be the stepmother.
Meryl Streep helping Helen Mirren with her dress
Two sensational actresses that we had no idea are friends: Meryl Streep and Helen Mirren. Streep proved that she is always there to help a sister out, when she helped fix Mirren's red Dior dress, following a wardrobe malfunction.
Twitter users loved it, and described Streep as having a "Miranda Priestley moment" in reference to her 2006 film, The Devil Wears Prada.
Jason Momoa's award ceremony vest
The Aquaman actor may have arrived in a green velvet suit jacket, but things clearly got warm because during the ceremony he kept things casual, taking off his jacket to reveal a black vest.
But it seems it was an entirely gentlemanly move, and had nothing to do with showing off his biceps, as his wife Lisa Bonet was later seen wrapped up in his jacket.

Taylor Swift and Amy Poehler burying the hatchet
Back in 2013, Poehler and Tina Fey made a joke about Swift's love life when presenting at the Golden Globes.
Talking about Sam Michael Fox, the son of actor Michael J Fox, Fey said, "You know what Taylor Swift? You stay away from Michael J Fox’s son." And Poehler added: "Or go for it."
The joke didn't go down well with Swift, who branded the joke sexist and said of the comedy duo: "There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women."
Fey and Poehler later apologised for the joke and now, seven years on, Poehler and Swift co-presented the award for Best Motion Picture – Animated to Missing Link.
