The Hand of Fatima explored in an exhibition

Looking for something different to do this weekend? Why not visit The Fairmont Bab Al Bahr to see the art work of Jacqueline Craig?

Craig is an artist who has taken inspiration from the Hand of Fatima or the Hamsa for her latest show. “For many years I have been fascinated by the symbol and the design,” she says. “Many early cultures adopted the eye as an icon for their protection and others used the Hamsa. So, over time the most popular universal symbol became an eye placed in the palm of a hand. The power of the eye inserted into Hamsa combined their power and introduced the idea of obtaining a more powerful talisman by combining the power of two.

“This universal amulet also represents femininity and has extraordinary characteristics and is still used as charm in many Middle Eastern countries today.”

* Jacqueline Craig’s solo show will run at The Fairmont Bab al Bahr until August 31.
