Taschen releases Egyptian Art collection based on works of Émile Prise d’Avennes

The French author, artist and scholar Achille-Constant-Théodore-Émile Prisse d’Avennes (1807-1879) was a man ahead of his time. His lifelong passion for all things ancient Egyptian – pyramids, pharaohs and architecture – made him an Egyptologist before the discipline was truly established.

He created highly documented albums of drawings, sculptures and paintings called L'Histoire de l'art égyptien and L'Art arabe. Taschen has created a publication called Egyptian Art made up of the complete collection of Prisse's illustrations in "a visual and archaeological feast of symmetry and complexity, mystery and opulence".
