New initiative is an Antitode to the UAE’s art scene

It is just what the UAE’s art scene needs, innovative start ups that offer platforms for emerging or mid-career artists. Antidote, founded last year by Najeh Zimmerman and Laure Parise Antidote creates spaces and exhibitions, highlighting exceptional artists from its roster in various locations throughout the UAE and abroad.

With no overhead constraints of a fixed gallery, the team can work like a pop-up, bringing the freshest art and design to new audiences. Their next event, Artroom, edition II - Collective Loft will take place from March 9-31 in a warehouse in Al Quoz, opposite Al Serkal Avenue.

Arranged as a “life-size installation of the interior of a young collector’s home” there will be pieces from several locally based and international artists with special emphasis on the Middle East.

Highlights include two Pakistani artists, Idrees Hanif and Aamir Habib who produce 3D pieces in cement and neon. Mohamed Rabie, a young emerging Egyptian artist whose rich paintings draw from his heritage and cultural practices and Martin Reyna, an Argenitinan artist who creates large scale works on paper.
