Calligraphy competition now open for UAE-based artists

A calligraphy competition to celebrate the UAE’s 45th National Day has been launched and is open to all UAE-based calligraphers. The move comes after the relase of a poem, produced by Aldar Properties, in collaboration with Emirati artists, Hassan Al Obaidly, a poet, Moussa Mohammed, a composer and singer Aida Al Menhali.

The competition aims to encourage the community to express national pride and love for the UAE, while promoting the classical form of art.

Participants are invited to submit designs representing either the full poem, its title, or specific verses in Arabic calligraphy before October 27. Emirati calligrapher Mohammed Mandi will lead the judging panel and select a shortlist of 10 designs. Each shortlisted entrant will receive Dh10,000 to arrange supplies for the preparation of their artwork in Aldar’s purpose built space in Yas Mall, from November 3-12.

A final awards ceremony will be held on November 13 at Yas Mall, with first and second place winners being awarded prizes of Dh100,000 and Dh50,000 respectively.
