Art-starved audiences treated to a surprise performance

The eccentric artistic trio Ramin Haerizadeh, Rokni Haerizadeh and Hesam Rahmanian treated art-starved audiences of Dubai to a surprise performance this weekend at Gallery Isabelle Van Den Eynde. The trio sent out an email to their followers last week with this poem:

Roasted alleys, crispy corners, snoozing trees, leathered belt sewn sea/ Light with its assured presence, reigns/ Only shadows know about summer’s intensity/ The simple joy of a breath in, a breeze around/ Ponder the quiet still of the summer time.

Then announcing that the gallerists have abandoned the galleries but that they had the key to Gallery Isabelle van den Eynde, they invited viewers to watch them galavant around the space in a true-to-form odd and bizarre performance, dressing in loose garbs wearing lettuces for heads and going about their business making art.

The performance was a precursor to their exhibition, The Birthday Party, to open at The Insitute of Contemporary Art in Boston in December. The floor you see in these images will be taken to Boston for this show. The trio would like to thank Maria Mumtaz and Nesa Azadikhah for this particular performance, which was organised in collaboration with Alserkal Avenue.
