ABU DHABI // The National's website, thenational.ae, has received the Golden Award at the UAE Web Awards competition.
The awards, in their seventh year, are organised by the Excellence Awards Academy, a Dubai-based organisation committed to improving the spirit of innovation and creativity of designers and developers in the e-sector as well as raising the standards of websites in Arab countries.
The websites were judged on five overall criteria: concept and creativity, technical, ease of use and navigation, content and structure, visual design solution and aesthetics, and interactivity.
The National’s managing editor, Laura Koot, said the honour was a reflection of the dedication and cooperation that has gone into the site.
“The transition newspapers have made expanding from print to digital has been a challenge and it is rewarding to have the success of this effort recognised,” she said. “Today, every journalist in The National contributes in some way to the success of our digital presence so this is an achievement for the whole newsroom.”
The awards were handed out on Monday evening to websites in a host of different sectors. The National won in the Media Online Press category.
This week The National also launched a microsite for the Abu Dhabi Film Festival (thenational.ae/adff) that will house all coverage of movies, filmmakers, celebrities and festival goings-on.
