The Britain’s Got Talent star and Grammy Award-nominee Susan Boyle will perform at Zayed Cricket Stadium on Friday, December 13.
The Abu Dhabi stop is part of the Scottish singer’s debut international world tour, which includes a range of North American cities. Boyle has already ventured on the road this year, playing a selection of UK dates.
A recent concert at Eden Court Theatre in Inverness in the UK was packed with more than two dozen covers, including Somewhere Over the Rainbow, River Deep Mountain High, You’ll Never Walk Alone and her signature take on the classic I Dreamed a Dream from Les Misérables.
Born and raised in Blackburn in central Scotland, Boyle’s interest in music began in her youth, with early performances within the local church hall. After leaving school, she began her search for a music career having entered and won a slew of local music competitions.
Her voice first began gaining attention when her rendition of Ella Fitzgerald’s Cry Me A River was included in the charity compilation Music for a Millennium Celebration, Sounds of West Lothian (bidding for a copy went to US$2,000 [Dh7,345] in an online auction in 2009).
Boyle was convinced by her voice coach to enter the third season of Britain’s Got Talent. Her rendition of I Dreamed a Dream on the show has become a YouTube smash with more than 135 million views. It was the beginning of an inspiring journey, which has included a runner-up place on Britain’s Got Talent, four hit albums and sharing the stage with her idol Elaine Page.
Boyle will be in Abu Dhabi to promote her forthcoming holiday collection Home for Christmas, which includes a posthumous duet with Elvis Presley.
