Shuddhi mired in casting controversies
Karan Johar's much-delayed film, titled Shuddhi, still doesn't have a lead pair. After Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor walked out of the project last year, it was reported that Bollywood's current hot couple, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, would take their place. Earlier this month, Johar announced that the star cast was nearly finalised, but has now gone on record to state that Singh and Padukone have not been signed on. NY celebrations of Hoffman life planned
The mother of the actor Philip Seymour Hoffman says there will be public celebrations of her son’s life in both New York City and Rochester this spring. The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle reports Hoffman’s mother Marilyn O’Connor also wanted to thank her friends and her son’s fans for all their kind words after his death. A friend read the retired judge’s statement on Friday during a film series honouring Hoffman. The statement read by the retired film critic Jack Garner said Hoffman was “a gift” to O’Connor for 46 years. Hoffman was found dead on February 2 in his Manhattan apartment. The New York City medical examiner said on Friday that he was killed by a toxic mix of drugs including heroin and cocaine. Hoffman grew up just outside Rochester. – AP
Danny Boyle: Slumdog Millionaire kids doing well
The director Danny Boyle says the child actors who featured in his Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire are thriving. Boyle, 57, said Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Ismail are doing well. "We sent them to a wonderful school. They're called the Aseema Schools, which are run by these women who take over abandoned state schools and offer a wonderful education, really," Boyle said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "They're benefiting hugely ... [the producer Christian Colson and I] go to Mumbai at least once a year ... They're bright kids. They've learnt to speak English and that will benefit them in terms of opportunities." – The National staff
