abu dhabi // Cables of well wishes to celebrate the start of the holy month of Ramadan have been exchanged across the Arab world.

President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed sent goodwill messages to kings, emirs and presidents of Arab and Muslim countries, wishing them continued good health and well-being, progress and prosperity.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, also sent cables to Arab and Muslim leaders, as did Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

Saturday is set as the first day of Ramadan as the UAE moon-sighting committee did not sight the new moon crescent on Thursday night. Friday was the last day of Shaban.
