Khalifa Foundation completes preparation for Ramadan iftar project

SHARJAH // The Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation has completed preparations for its 2014 iftar project across the UAE and plans to distribute 65,000 iftar meals a day throughout the forthcoming holy month at 110 mosques and location across the country, said Mohammed Hajji Al Khouri, the director general of the foundation.

The iftar meals, each worth ADh21, will be prepared by more than 600 women, in coordination with Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) and health departments of municipalities of the northern regions to ensure maximum public health safety, Mr Al Khouri said. More than 500 volunteers, most of them sons of the Emirati women involved in preparing the Ramadan charity meals, are taking part in the distribution of the meals, Mr Al Khouri said.

Civil defence departments across the country will ensure public safety during the preparation and transportation of the meals.

Now in its fifth year, the foundation’s iftar project, which is aimed at helping national underprivileged families increase their income, urged government departments and corporations to employ local women to prepare meals for their iftar initiatives during Ramadan. These include the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, and Abu Dhabi’s oil companies.

The official said the foundation’s 2014 iftar project is supported by du, Industrial City of Abu Dhabi, Al Hosn Gas, Al Dhafra Co-operative Society in the Western Region, and Emirates Transport, which will carry the iftar meals every day to the designated locations.

Mr Al Khouri extended the foundation’s thanks to the President, Sheikh Khalifa, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, for enabling the success of the Khalifa bin Zayed Foundation’s charity projects here and overseas.
