Dubai-based designer Ezra kicked off Fashion Forward, sending candy floss couture down the runway to the staccato taps of a flamenco dancer’s shoes.
The Clara Collection was inspired by Manila of the 1930s and Spain’s earlier colonization of the Philippines. Ezra’s pieces featured pina, a rare fibre made from the leaves of pineapple plants mixed with silk, to stunning effect. The collection was also awash with abaca and inabel, plant-derived fabrics made from materials indigenous to the Philippines.
Blush pink and fuchsia defined the collection with Ezra’s trademark Cinderella ball gowns of silk tulle, crepe and jacquard shimmering with intricate bead detailing.
