SHARJAH // A group of Emirati children marked National Day by creating their own gowns in the colours of the UAE flag.
The initiative was organised by Fashion Line Centre in Khor Fakkan, which provides courses in fashion technology.
Najwa Al Awani, 36, the owner of the centre, said: “The idea was to provide a free of charge workshop to girls aged between 7 to 12 and give them the chance to create and design their own outfits that represent their love for the UAE.”
Mira Al Naqbi, 11, one of the participants, said making the dress was her way of showing her love for the country.
“I couldn’t stop thinking about the design since yesterday, so many ideas in my mind and I will try to add them all to the dress,” she said.
Hajar Al Hammadi, 12, said: “I have created lots of paintings in the past for this occasion, but this is the first time I get to design and paint on a dress that I can wear during the National Day celebrations.”
“I’m so excited to show my work to my family and friends, I’m proud of my country and glad that I will wear my own design.”
Shojoon Al Shahi, 12, said: “I’m glad that we had the chance to participate in this workshop. It made me want to learn more about fashion designing and take it up as a new hobby.”
