The stars appear to be aligning in Lama Jouni's favour this month, with the young Dubai-based designer quickly becoming a regional label to be reckoned with. Last week, one of her designs was seen on Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt, who wore the black, white and mustard-hued dress to a celebration party for Aamir Khan's recent film, Dangal. The dress, which features accordion pleats and double slits, is from Jouni's spring/summer 2017 collection.
This comes only weeks after it was announced that the designer has been selected by Fashion Forward Dubai (FFWD), Fashion Scout and the FAD Institute of Luxury Fashion & Style Dubai, to present her autumn/winter 2017 collection at London Fashion Week.
Jouni, who has a Lebanese background, studied at Parsons School of Design in Paris and trained with Balmain and Reed Krakoff before launching her own namesake ready-to-wear label in 2013. The designer has participated at FFWD for the past three consecutive seasons, and is currently represented by Dubai-based boutique PR agency Faux Consultancy.
Jouni’s autumn/winter 2017 catwalk show will take place on Sunday, February 19, as part of the Fashion Scout presentation at Covent Garden in London.
