The UAE-based label Bint Thani will present an installation at the International Fashion Showcase (IFS) 2016 during the upcoming London Fashion Week. The display, titled Utopia as a Process, is an ode to Dubai's transformation, growing from desert to a modern metropolis, features state-of-the-art architecture, and was commissioned by the British Council UAE.
The IFC presents specially commissioned and curated fashion installations by emerging designers. This year’s event will feature designers from 24 countries and marks the first time a UAE brand has shown at the annual presentation.
Bint Thani's founder, Emirati designer Khulood Thani, was born and raised in Dubai, and is the first UAE national to hold a degree from the oldest sartorial institute in France, Esmod Paris. She is also an official ambassador for the Dubai Design and Fashion Council (DDFC).
Nez Gebreel, CEO of the DDFC, explains that the council’s endorsement of Bint Thani’s presence at the IFS represents its “commitment to promoting and encouraging innovation in design”.
She adds: “The very core of our mandate is to nurture emerging designers and this showcase lends us the opportunity to shine a spotlight on up and coming talent. Khulood is a leading example of an Emirati designer who is making her mark internationally and we hope that there will be many more opportunities to collaborate with IFS to highlight other Emirati and regional designers.”
The International Fashion Showcase 2016 will be open to the public from February 19-23.
