Health authorities in Saudi Arabia have reported two more deaths from the Middle East respiratory syndrome virus, from among 11 new recorded cases in the western city of Jeddah.

The health ministry says Jeddah’s King Fahd hospital was referring incoming patients to other medical facilities on Tuesday after an employee there tested positive for Mers.

A nurse at another hospital in the city had also earlier contracted the virus.

The official Saudi Press agency (SPA) reported on Wednesday that two people who contracted the Mers have died.

The deaths bring to at least 66 the number of people who died in the kingdom at the centre of the outbreak.

SPA says three people are still receiving medical care.
