Qatar emir meets Saudi king in Jeddah

Both leaders discussed their cooperation in the Arab, Islamic and international arena, according to Saudi Arabia's official news agency.

JEDDAH // The emir of Qatar held talks with Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah on Monday night.

King Abdullah received “his brother” Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani at the palace in Jeddah, the Saudi Press Agency said.

“During the meeting, they discussed cooperation between the two countries in addition to the overall events and developments in the Arab, Islamic and international arena,” the report said.

Saudi Arabia and Qatar, along with their the UAE and Bahrain, have taken part in or given support to US-led coalition airstrikes against extremists of the ISIL group in Syria.

The joint air campaign began in late September.

Qatar's relations with the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain sank to a new low in March when the three governments withdrew their ambassadors from Doha, accusing it of supporting the Muslim Brotherhood. Riyadh has declared the Brotherhood a terrorist group, a move supported by the UAE and Bahrain.

Doha later asked Brotherhood leaders to leave Qatar.
