Events for the week of November 22 - 28.

22.11 Syrian government to host a US-backed security conference in Damascus to get Arab countries to engage on the issue of Iraq. 23.11 Adel Abu Haliqa will go down in history as the UAE's first national freediver when he takes part in the world freediving championship in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Whatever score he achieves will set a national record. 24.11 Additional launch of the 2009 Humanitarian Appeal in Abu Dhabi under the auspices of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE and president of the UAE Red Crescent Authority. The global appeal seeks to raise US$7 billion (Dh1.9bn) to help 30 million people in 31 countries around the world.

25.11 The 17th Middle East International Gold, Jewellery, Clock and Watch exhibition is due to open in Bahrain, running until Nov 29, at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre. Antique jewellery, gemstones and silverware will be among the items on offer. 26.11 London's premier maritime event, The Sail, Power and Watersports Show runs at Earl's Court until Nov 30. Hundreds of watercraft will be on display, including powerboats, jet-skis and modern-day cruisers. A boat auction will feature more than 100 boats for sale.

27.11 The QE2 is due to arrive in Dubai at the end of its last voyage after bidding an emotional farewell to the UK. The 70,000-tonne liner, which left late after running aground, will be transformed into a luxury hotel and exhibition centre at the Palm Jumeirah resort. 28.11 Walk Emirates campaign on the Corniche, Abu Dhabi, to raises awareness of diabetes and promote a healthier lifestyle. Starts at 3pm.
