Kuwait's state oil company said on Monday it was trying to contain an oil spill off Al Zour power station in the Ras Al Zour area.
"All necessary and emergency procedures" have been taken to contain the spill, the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation said, adding that the source of the spill was unknown.
KPC, in coordination with other oil companies, had dispatched marine units and equipment to the area, the state Kuwait News Agency said.
It was also coordinating with government departments, including the ministry of the interior.
The spill was discovered at 7.30am local time, Kuna said.
It comes a month after Kuwait battled another oil spill near the southern Ras Al Zour area. Kuwaiti media at the time quoted local oil experts as saying the spill originated from an old 50-kilometre pipeline from the Al Khafji oilfield which Kuwait shares with Saudi Arabia.
