As Saudi women get set to drive starting Sunday for the first time since 1957, the first class of female traffic investigators graduated to take on the management and handling of road accidents.
The General Directorate of Traffic and Najm Insurance Company said that the first batch of 40 female traffic accident investigators graduated following an intensive training programme.

During the graduation ceremony held on Thursday at Riyadh's Four Seasons Hotel, Maha Al Shanifi, Director General of Corporate Communications and Marketing at Najm said that the investigators who proved language proficiency, absence of criminal record, and acceptance of morning and evening shifts, were selected for the first batch.
She stressed the importance of training female investigators and said that its a step towards empowering the Saudi women.
Najm CEO, Fahd Bin Ibrahim Al Aqeel, said that involving women in managing accidents contributes to the implementation of the lifting of the ban. He said that Najm is working towards raising awareness among women drivers about the importance of following safety rules.
Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Bassami, Director-General of Traffic General was present during the event.
