Port officials had planned for the arrival of the Algeciras for six months, surveying the seabed and using a simulator to model the ship's arrival at the mouth of the River Thames, east of London.
The ship is due to leave later on Monday, reloaded with British exports bound for China via Singapore.
Ernst Schulze, chief executive of DP World UK, said: "The visit by HMM Algeciras is testament to the capabilities we offer."
