Notre-Dame Cathedral went up in flames in central Paris on Monday as firefighters battled into the next day trying to save the historic building.
The 850-year-old Gothic monument is of global significance. Attracting more than 13 million visitors a year, it is the most-visited tourist site in Paris, beating the Eiffel Tower and Montmartre.
