A woman in Northern Ireland is in a critical but stable condition with a head injury after being attacked with a cordless drill in County Tyrone in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police were questioning a 17-year-old on Saturday evening and had not ruled out a possible homophobic attack.
"This was a brutal attack and the injuries sustained by the victim are extremely grave," Detective Sergeant Brian Reid said.
Police appealed for information and video footage of the incident from anyone who saw a man carrying a drill around the time of the assault. They also asked to speak to anyone who may have captured footage, on a mobile telephone or dashcam.
Daniel McCrossa, SDLP assembly member for West Tyrone, called it "horrific".
"It is a monstrous attack and one that has sent shockwaves across the entirety of the wider Strabane community today."
"I actually felt sick, that this could happen."
