Major incident declared as UK braces for Storm Christoph - in pictures

Sandbags have been distributed in South Yorkshire where Storm Christoph has caused a major incident to be declared.

Alerts have been issued across Scotland and much of  northern and central England, as fears of widespread flooding grow.

Ros Jones, mayor of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, tweeted:

And this tweet from Doncaster Council shows its attempts to batten down the hatches before Christoph really takes its toll.

The UK’s meteorological office tweeted this video showing Tuesday’s forecast and urged people to remain vigilant.
