Liberty Charge has installed 20 on-street electric vehicle charging points across 10 sites in the London borough of Waltham Forest.
The joint venture by Liberty Global and Zouk Capital will increase to 50 sites as future locations are chosen.
Waltham Forest is the first installation in a national programme by Liberty Charge.
The charge points provide access to a charging capacity of up to 22 kilowatts and cost electric vehicle drivers 30 pence for each kW-hour.
A report from Policy Exchange last month found that the UK needed to install five times as many charging points to meet its climate goals.
More will be confirmed throughout the year as Liberty Charge continues discussions with local authorities throughout the UK to maximise on-street charging opportunities for residents.
“There are many challenges on the road to net-zero [carbon emissions] and at Liberty Charge we’re doing everything we can to ensure that charging infrastructure is not a limiting factor,” said Neil Isaacson, chief executive of Liberty Charge.
“We look forward to partnering with other local authorities to give residents more opportunities to charge their electric vehicles on the street."
The joint venture, which was set up last May, uses Liberty Global’s UK subsidiary Virgin Media’s network, installation abilities and trusted relationships with local authorities.
Zouk is the manager of the Charging Infrastructure Investment Fund, established by the UK Government in 2019 and backed to help develop public charging points throughout Britain.
The charging points will be operated by EV Dot, a publicly accessible network owned and operated by BMM Networks.

Another way to earn air miles
In addition to the Emirates and Etihad programmes, there is the Air Miles Middle East card, which offers members the ability to choose any airline, has no black-out dates and no restrictions on seat availability. Air Miles is linked up to HSBC credit cards and can also be earned through retail partners such as Spinneys, Sharaf DG and The Toy Store.
An Emirates Dubai-London round-trip ticket costs 180,000 miles on the Air Miles website. But customers earn these ‘miles’ at a much faster rate than airline miles. Adidas offers two air miles per Dh1 spent. Air Miles has partnerships with websites as well, so booking.com and agoda.com offer three miles per Dh1 spent.
“If you use your HSBC credit card when shopping at our partners, you are able to earn Air Miles twice which will mean you can get that flight reward faster and for less spend,” says Paul Lacey, the managing director for Europe, Middle East and India for Aimia, which owns and operates Air Miles Middle East.
