Choc horror! Liquid chocolate spill in Poland causes major delays

It was an unusual day's work for emergency workers in Poland on Wednesday as they were called out not to put out blazes, but to clear chocolate.

A tanker carrying 12 tons of liquid milk chocolate overturned in the early hours of the morning after colliding with a traffic barrier, causing waves of the liquid to coat Poland's A2 motorway between Wrzesnia and Slupca.

The incident has lead to a rather sticky situation as traffic came to a complete standstill.

Police said earlier in the day it could be several hours before the road would be able to reopen.

According to the manufacturer, spilled chocolate is more difficult to remove than oil and needs to be shifted gradually using pressurized hot water.

In some areas, the chocolate was so thick that heavy machinery was brought in to scoop up the mess.

The driver suffered a broken arm and was later taken to hospital. While no one else was injured during the incident, the troublesome substance did rob one local journalist of his shoe.

How to turn your property into a holiday home
  1. Ensure decoration and styling – and portal photography – quality is high to achieve maximum rates.
  2. Research equivalent Airbnb homes in your location to ensure competitiveness.
  3. Post on all relevant platforms to reach the widest audience; whether you let personally or via an agency know your potential guest profile – aiming for the wrong demographic may leave your property empty.
  4. Factor in costs when working out if holiday letting is beneficial. The annual DCTM fee runs from Dh370 for a one-bedroom flat to Dh1,200. Tourism tax is Dh10-15 per bedroom, per night.
  5. Check your management company has a physical office, a valid DTCM licence and is licencing your property and paying tourism taxes. For transparency, regularly view your booking calendar.
