The Emirates Red Crescent signed an agreement worth Dh3 million on Sunday to upgrade the sewage network in the governorate of Aden in Yemen.

Yemeni prime minister Ahmed Obaid bin Daghr attended the programme launch that will look to improve the network's operational capacity by replacing the dilapidated drainage pipes and joints.

Mr Daghr commended the UAE's humanitarian efforts in Yemen and referred to the vital role played by the ERC in the liberated governorates of his country.

Mohammed Saeed Al Ketbi, director of the ERC office in Aden, said the assistance was part of the UAE's approach to help Yemenis overcome the difficulties caused by the conflict.

An ERC cargo ship last week carrying 30,000 food baskets and school uniforms arrived in the port of Mukalla to be distributed to underprivileged families in the Hadhramaut and Shabwa provinces.

Ahmed Al Baloushi, deputy head of the ERC in Hadhramaut, said the authority is continuously working to provide aid relief and humanitarian support to ease the suffering and meet the needs of Yemeni families.
