ISLAMABAD // Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday appointed former attorney general Sardar Latif Khosa as governor of Punjab province to replace assassinated Salman Taseer, his office said.

"On the advice of prime minister, President Asif Ali Zardari has appointed Sardar Latif Khosa as governor Punjab," the presidency said in a statement.

Taseer, who was a member of the main ruling Pakistan People's Party (PPP), was shot dead by his bodyguard outside an Islamabad coffee shop last week.
