A 14-year-old schoolboy, Mohammed Ajiruddin, has surrendered to police in the north-eastern Indian state of Manipur after the principal of a local school, the Emida Public Academy, was found hacked to death.
The head teacher, Mohammed Bhutto, 35, had allegedly found the schoolboy and some friends "participating in a gambling game" at Wangkhem Bazaar in the Thoubal district of Manipur, and told them off, according to local media reports. Later that day, according to police, Ajiruddin went to the home of Mr Bhutto with some friends and attacked the head teacher with a sharp weapon, killing him.
Police told local media that Ajiruddin allegedly killed the teacher for informing his family about his misbehaviors and "showing no interest in studies".
Residents in Phoudeli, Ajiruddin's home village, are said to have burned down his family home the day after the teacher was killed.
Ajiruddin is said to have surrendered to police along with his father.
