The 100-kilometre endurance race was won by Sheikh Mohammed, now Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.

In the race, Sheikh Mohammed rode Faih, a chestnut gelding.
The marathon event attracted riders from Egypt, the UAE, Syria and Jordan.
Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed, right, who died in 2015, finished third in the race.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed also took part in the marathon ride.
