DUBAI // An Indian construction worker will spend six months in jail because he could not handle ribbing from a colleague who spanked him and criticised his work, Dubai Criminal Court ruled.
The victim, whose nationality and age were not were not given in court, was beaten up by the suspect and other men after he jokingly – he said – hit the 33-year-old defendant on his bottom and told him that his work was not good.
On January 27 last year, the defendant gathered some of his friends and waited for the victim after the incident, armed with sticks. When he arrived, they beat him, fracturing his jaw and loosening his teeth.
Police were called and the victim was found on the floor, his face bleeding. He was taken to Rashid Hospital for treatment.
Prosecuters said that the defendant confessed to a physical assault charge and to causing a 4 per cent permanent disability to the victim because he criticised his work.
The defendant denied charges in court, however he was found guilty and sentenced to jail.
