Women and children injured as fire breaks out in UAE residential building

Three women and five children were injured when a fire broke out in a five-storey residential building on Wednesday.

Ajman Civil Defence said the victims inhaled smoke after the blaze began on the third floor. The building is located in the Nuaimi area of the emirate.

Images showed an interior hall and a children's pram and bikes blackened by the smoke.

"Eight residents suffered from minor smoke inhalation, three women and five children, and were treated on-site by the national ambulance service," Brig Gen Al Shamsi said. He said officers were looking into the cause of the fire.

Brig Gen Al Shamsi urged apartment occupants and landlords to ensure safety devices like smoke detectors are fitted to protect lives and avoid costly property damage.

An eight-month-old baby died after a fire tore through a Dubai home on Sunday. The child was sleeping in her room in the Al Barsha villa when the blaze broke out.
