DUBAI // A Kenyan woman threw a glass into a Lebanese man’s face after he made remarks about her sexuality, a court has heard.
The man, 40, suffered permanent damage to his sight after the attack, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Sunday.
The incident occurred at a party on February 6 in Oud Al Mutainah.
It was attended by 10 friends and their partners.
“The dispute started when the defendant claimed that she overheard him mocking her relationship with a woman and how they would never have children,” a 27-year-old witness from Tanzania told the court.
She said that the defendant, 31, threw a drink in the man’s face, and when he did not respond she threw the glass at him.
The Kenyan woman was charged with physical assault causing a permanent disability and with issuing insults, which she denied in court yesterday.
The man confessed to a charge of drinking alcohol without a licence but denied insulting the woman.
He was treated at Rashid Hospital, where doctors found he had suffered a 40 per cent disability to his left eye.
The next hearing has been scheduled for May 18.
