Two women in a holding prison got into a fight in which one bit off the other’s finger tip, Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The women, from Tunisia and Morocco, were in a detention centre for cases pending trial, the details of which were not disclosed in court documents.

The two gave the court different reasons for the fight on November 28.

The Tunisian, 43, said it was because the Moroccan, 38, spat on her floor, while her rival said the older woman mocked her.

“I asked her not to spit on the floor so she cursed me, using bad language," the Tunisian woman said.

"When I told her to stop it, she grabbed my hand and bit off the tip of my finger."
The Moroccan denied her co-accused's story, saying that the Tunisian woman mocked her for crying on the phone.
"I was on the phone when she said I was a drama queen for crying all the time," she said.

"I told her to stop it and then we both returned to our cells."
She said that on returning to their cells, the Tunisian woman continued to insult her so they spat at each other and began to fight.
"She grabbed me by the mouth so I just defended myself when I bit her," said the Moroccan, who denied charges of physical assault, causing permanent disability and issuing insults.
The second accused has yet to receive her charge.
The next hearing is scheduled for May 21.
