UMM AL QUWAIN // An Asian woman who aborted her baby at seven months and tried to flush it down the toilet has been arrested.
Police were notified by emergency department staff at Umm Al Quwain Hospital after the Sri Lankan, 30, turned up at hospital bleeding and seeking treatment on Tuesday, said Col Mohammed Al Bayraq, director of operations at UAQ Police.
Doctors said she had given birth without medical attention.
Police went to the woman’s home in UAQ Free Zone and found the dead boy’s bodyin the toilet bowl.
The woman, who worked at a garments factory in UAQ, told police she had been in an illegal relationship and became pregnant. She decided to abort after her partner left the country.
She has been referred to Public Prosecution on charges of premeditated murder and having an illegal affair.
