Weather warnings for UAE drivers and seafarers

UAE drivers have been warned to remain vigilant as visibility is reduced, and seafarers should avoid activities in the sea.

Residents in the UAE have been advised to exercise extreme caution amid warnings of rough seas in the Arabian Gulf.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology issued the warning today, cautioning seafarers against any sea activities due to strong winds.

"There is low pressure approaching over our area because of a strong north-westerly wind over the sea," said a spokesman at the centre. "So the sea is rough at the moment and it will continue [for the next two days]."

The worst conditions were recorded in the east off the coast of Fujairah with waves reaching almost a metre and a half offshore.

The spokesman has also warned drivers to stay vigilant on the road as visibility in some central and western areas of the country will be reduced. "The lowest visibility so far will drop to four kilometres in the desert," he said.

The centre's weather report stated partly cloudy and hazy conditions over the internal areas, especially in the western region. Clouds are likely to increase gradually, with a chance of rain.

Winds will also pick up from the west, blowing dust and sand, with temperatures expected to drop in the west and wind speeds due to reach 36 km/hour inland and up to 45 km/hour over the sea.

Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah are expected to get hit by the lowest temperatures today at 17C.
