ABU DHABI // A new organisation called the Emirates Excellence Council will unite similar local and federal efforts to create a "national culture of excellence".
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, ordered the creation of the council during the Emirates Government Excellence Conference in Dubai.
"Consolidation of efforts by local and federal entities and the integration of excellence programmes will result in huge leaps in government performance," he said, the state news agency, Wam, reported.
"Everyone has to be excellent. All employees have the desire. Our job as officials is to provide a favourable environment to unleash the potential of our sons."
On the sidelines of the conference, Sheikh Mohammed celebrated the UAE's high ranking in the Global Competitiveness Yearbook issued by the International Institute of Management Development, in Switzerland.
In the report, the UAE ranked eighth overall on the competitiveness of its economy, putting it just behind Canada in seventh, but ahead of Germany, ninth.
Also yesterday, a ceremony was held to sign an agreement between the Federal Government and three universities to provide training for government employees.
Starting from next September, federal government staff will be trained in government policies, legal management and communications, Wam reported.
The courses will be offered as part of an initiative to improve the qualifications of government employees.
Sharjah University, Zayed University and Insead-Abu Dhabi will offer the training.
