DUBAI // A man who tried to kill his two nephews in a row over an inheritance has lost his appeal against his one-year jail term.
Pakistani M M, 37, claimed he was defending himself after the pair attacked him.
“I inherited a plot of land from my father but my brother and his two sons started making problems with me over it,” he told the court. “I was merely defending myself.”
But the nephews, M A M, 33, and M A, said they were at home when their uncle arrived on June 14 last year and asked them to make an urgent call to Pakistan.
“I told him we were having dinner and, when we finish, we will make the call,” M A said.
An argument broke out and the brothers said their uncle assaulted them.
“After he beat me he took a knife and stabbed me in the hand and abdomen, then stabbed my brother in his abdomen,” M A said.
His brother said someone called police at about 8pm, and an ambulance took the siblings to hospital.
Police found the uncle in the brothers’ living room and arrested him, records show.
“He confessed to stabbing them because of a dispute over inheritance,” said police officer S K, 30.
He was charged with attempted murder and convicted at the Criminal Court.
