UAE weather: Heavy rain and winds in Sharjah

Heavy rainfall was reported in Sharjah along Mleiha Road on Sunday afternoon.

Heavy rainfall and strong winds were reported along Mleiha Road in Sharjah on Sunday afternoon.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology said that there may be rainfall over eastern and southern areas in the next couple of days. However, the weather in general continues to be hot and hazy across the country.

The rain follows a warning by the centre earlier on Sunday about “rainy towering clouds” and fresh winds that could cause blowing dust or sand and poor visibility in the country’s eastern areas.

The highest temperature recorded in the country on Sunday was 49.3°C, measured in Al Wathba at 3.30pm.

Humidity will increase overnight and into Monday morning, peaking at 90 per cent, which may lead to mist formation, especially over western areas. The centre also said on Twitter that during July, the average maximum humidity is between 65 per cent and 81 per cent.
