The Victim Outreach programme at Naif police station in Deira has reunited an Arab woman with her son after a 17-year separation.
Col Abdullah Al Mausam, director of the station, said W M K contacted the programme to help her find her son and her ex-husband.
She told the police she was married in the 1990s to A A, an Arabian Gulf national who later became Emirati. The couple had a son before getting divorced and the man had her deported.
Since then, she has not been able to communicate with her son and under the laws of her country she could not travel to the UAE to be reunited with him.
Col Al Mausam said the programme searched all traffic and criminal databases trying to find her former husband but was unsuccessful. Eventually, police looked through a database of Emirati nationals and found the man.
He at first refused to allow the family reunion, but gave in due to the programme officials’ insistence.
