ABU DHABI // Those affected by Typhoon Haiyan are to benefit from an agreement between the Emirates Red Crescent and the Philippine Red Cross.

Haiyan was one of the most powerful tropical cyclones on record. It killed more than 6,000 people, displaced more than four million and caused widespread devastation as it swept across the Philippines in November last year.

Richard Gordon, the chairman and chief executive of the Philippine Red Cross, said that the US$10 million (Dh36.7m) Emirates Red Crescent humanitarian aid programme, to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan is a generous initiative.

He praised the strength of cooperation and friendship between the UAE and the Philippines.
